A contemporary Italian living room built around padded seating, low tables and open shelving is the subject here, suited to a lounge or a quiet reading corner. The gallery shows velvet armchairs, marble consoles and stone-topped tables. Current pieces from Epoque, Cantori and Dall'Agnese follow.

What does a reading corner need?

A padded seat, a low table within reach and shelving close by. The pieces in the gallery were presented for that use: a quiet place to read, a lounge or a study. The photographs below show velvet and suede armchairs, marble consoles and an ivory shelving unit. Put a lamp behind the reader's shoulder, not in front.

Which sofa and table suit a contemporary lounge?

A deep-filled sofa and a low table with a hard-wearing top suit it. The Okenite Sofa by Epoque, from the Exence Expanse collection, has a seat with Piumex filling. The Slash Coffee Table by Dall'Agnese has a solid wood frame and a 30 mm top in wood or matt lacquer, or with 6 mm stoneware laid on it. A stoneware top is a practical choice next to a reading chair. See how pieces combine in our high end living room sets.

How should shelving be arranged?

Mix open shelves with closed boxes so the wall does not look crowded. The Hong Kong Bookcase Composition by Cantori is freestanding, in wood and aluminium, with cube boxes with flap doors among its wooden shelf inserts. For the next room, look at an italian modern bedroom set in the same spirit.

Frequently Asked Questions

What filling does the Okenite sofa seat use?

Piumex filling. Scatter cushions are not included.

Which tops does the Slash coffee table take?

A 30 mm particle board top in wood or matt lacquer, or the same with 6 mm stoneware laid on it.

Is the Hong Kong bookcase wall-mounted?

No. It is a freestanding composition in wood and aluminium, with base and side panels in plywood veneered in ash.
